You know when you’re listening to music that’s so breathtaking and amazing that all you can do is sit there and absorb it and start shaking and you begin wondering if you’re going to have a heart attack but you just wait anyway because that’s the best way to die?

Yeah. Um.

Yuki Hayashi’s second season OST for Boku no Hero Academia is slaying me.

You Say Run/Jet Set Run

YO THERE’S GONNA BE SO MANY SPOILERS FOR THE BOKU NO HERE ACADEMIA MANGA IN HERE, SO AVERT YOUR EYES.

There’s really one song that stands out to most fans of Boku no Hero, when you think of the OSTs, or at least the first one to jump out, and that’s You Say Run. I’ve always considered this to be more of All Mights theme, rather than anything, despite it running during other moments. It’s reserved for moments of intense resolve and heroism; so in turn it’s most often associated with All Might given that he’s the Symbol of Peace.

If You Say Run is All Mights theme, then I think it’d be reasonable to treat Jet Set Run as Izuku’s theme, given that it’s most often used in the context of his struggles once it’s actually introduced to the series. It’s similar to You Say Run, but still it’s own score. Personally i’m not as big a fan of Jet Set Run as I am You Say Run, simply because of the tone of both songs, I prefer the composition of You Say Run much more.

Now, the reason I went through the trouble of typing that stuff out, is because I was thinking about the upcoming third season, and the fact that it has probably the most hype parts of the series in it, given that it takes place during the Training Camp arc and presumably will conclude after All for One vs All Might.

I like the idea of Izuku having his own All Might inspired theme, but what I want the most is in the climax of his fight against Muscular, I want to hear You Say Run as he faces down his opponent with a smile, not Jet Set Run. In that moment, Izuku is a real hero, even if only for Kouta. I think it’d be fitting to use this music for Izuku in the same season where All Might declares that he’s next.

Basically, i’d like to see You Say Run used in scenes where Izuku embodies what it is to be The Symbol of Peace, where Jet Set Run would accompany his and the rest of class 1a’s trials and tribulations. When they leap into action to rescue Bakugo, or when Bakugo finally confronts Izuku and they brawl.

I mean, i’m rambling at this point, and these are just thoughts that I had floating around while I was at work, and wanted to get out of my head now that i’ve got some time.
