The Prince's piercing stare.
I was curious about your jetwings! You list all their engine types like fusion, fission, and combustion. My question is; how does that work anatomy-wise? Is it just like a “its magic dont worry about it :)” or do you have some lore or ideas on how that works? Also tell me you know about a monster called Valstrax, if not please look it up!
I do know about valstrax!! it's one of my fave monsters :D and it definitely inspired jetwings in some aspects :]
I have thought about it, but I am also not a scientist, so this is not super in depth haha, but basically, jetwings have slightly different anatomy in their bodies than other dragons. Most dragons have an organ in their bodies that allows for energy attacks, like a big capacitor. A Jetwing's "engines" are a hyperevolved version of this, that under specific circumstances (situations of high adrenaline, and high activity, the way your heart pumps really hard when running) can make energy much in excess of what it can store, so it must be vented outside of the body. And ofc when this happens it creates thrust :]
They also use air intakes just like jets as well, thats why they all have openings in their clavicles (usually) or elsewhere where air can flow in mid flight, into their engines.
The different types of engines evolved from the variants of these organs, for example one that specializes in thermal generation would eventually become a combustion engine, and one that specialized in generating electricity would evolve into an electric engine. Outside of this I have not thought much further but I plan to !
The Octane species appears to be a combo of dragon and jet like a biomech almost. How important or common are these Octane species and are there other mashups like it in Broken Horizons? The biomech jet/dragon mashup creatures (I call them Aerosaurs) are cool concepts to explore the spectrum between animal and machine. I hope you continue to incorporate them into your world and want to see more designs. Thanks
They are a little uncommon but not super rare!
In broken horizon they are called Jetwings! Jetwings are a subtype of dragon that is able to fly using some type of engine/pressurized combustion, making their speed significantly higher than their regular dragon peers.
They can look more like planes, or more like dragons. In-universe, human planes are actually modelled/inspired by Jetwings! (or at least some of them are)
I will be drawing more of them for sure, they are really fun to draw and design :) thank you sm or the interest!
