It actually makes me both wonderfully touched and proud that there’s so much of me in my nephews that I never expected. I mean, I practically co-raised them the first several years of their life but I never expected to see so much of me coming out in them. As somebody who never thought I would have my own children and probably never will it literally makes me cry happy tears. And I mean, they are both just genuinely good kids. Aside from the basic moments of minor attitude or teen/tween energy — they are so inherently good. They are well-behaved. They’re clever and funny. They’re kind.

Kelan - 16, looks SO much like my mom did when she was 18/19, it’s eerie. And he’s tall and lanky like her mother. He wants to be a writer / filmmaker like me and I’ve been helping him learn. We constantly talk movies and he’s always asking me to go with him to R-rated movies (like Challengers, etc) which I just think is the ultimate cool points as an Auntie. And he draws really well which is amazing. My mom drew goofy stuff as a teen and then I was always in art classes in High School doing sketches and painting and would always draw my favorite actors and characters and now he’s a talented artist, even better than I ever was. He’s creative and sarcastic and we can talk endlessly about movies and music, etc. I took him with me when I got one of my tattoos. Next thing you know he was saying he wants to get a tattoo when he’s 18. (apologies to his mom 😂)

Jace - 12, when he was little, he looked identical to how I looked when I was little; now we both have the same weird little idiosyncrasies like we both overheat so easily, we can be super social but ultimately get overwhelmed with too much overstimulation and then need to GET AWAY from people; we both always find a way to choke on almost anything we eat lol, he has such a high level of empathy the way that I do to the point where he’s just just walking, sensitive beating heart and so caring; he’s obsessed with animals like I am and I feel like if anything ever happened to me, he and Kelan would fight over who gets to keep Toby… meanwhile Jace will not give up trying to win over Seven no matter how many times she hisses and slaps him even though he’s known her her entire life. 😂
