ben's backlog: the husk! (~6.5 mo.)

first up, two samples of my eeeaarly TI stuff, featuring the remnant husk. figured it'd be a good first choice for this series since there's gonna be a lot of this guy (and its wearer) in future logs & on the blog in general going forward.

✏️ comments/process stuff:

top: 9/9/25, first sketches of this thing. don't really have much to say, but fun to look back on knowing just how differently i draw it nowadays. like the eyes here are so silly

bottom: 9/14/25. second full drawing of it; a study of a frame from AIWF & my first time trying to render. limited palette was a good idea, but the pencil brush was not. took 3-ish days of continuous work and afterwards i was kind of astonished by the whole ordeal.

🐇 about the husk:

this thing is the entire reason i started doing digital art of TI in the first place. i honestly didn’t really care much for it or major at the time! but since the husk’s model was privately commissioned for the series, and J doesn't have plans to release it (at least not before the end of TI), i knew i had to either model it myself or draw it if i ever wanted to use it for anything serious. it’d been a long while since i’d made anything outside of concept sketches for SFM renders, but because i had no idea how to use blender, i still wanted to try. that choice and its outcome has lead to a nearly 7-months-and-counting fixation on both the series itself and the remnant husk specifically that has not abated for any longer than a week. drawing it not only got me back into digital art, but doing so consistently has allowed my skills to improve at a ridiculous pace... so yeah, this metal rabbit suit is very, very important to me and there will be a lot more of it in the future.

ahem. back to what i was saying above the cutoff, here's the ref for the study, taken from AIWE:C. i still really dig the lighting in a bunch of those shots, it was hard to pick just one frame.

...and the final thing, since nervously posting my first rendered piece to be met with this level of praise definitely motivated me to continue making stuff with RH.
