And so it ends. 2017 was a lot! 💛 Massive thank you to everyone who supported me, talked to me and whom I had a chance to meet. You made it special. 😊 Now on to 2018! Happy New Year! See you at Worlds! ✌

Yuna Aoki is, once again (I mean, just like last season), assigned to the second Junior Grand Prix of the season but hopefully this year proves to be a lot more successful for her. She's a lovely skater and on August 28th last year I went to photograph figure skating for the first time hoping she would get to skate her long program well. It didn't happen that time but I sincerely hope she enjoys two clean programs in Ostrava this year.

The photos were taken using a 1971 lens and focused manually, so all of them are very much imperfect but I hope you like them. Drop me a note either on Tumblr or Twitter to get bigger or not watermarked photos.

Before ISU competitions of this season start, here are a few of my very first pancakes in figure skating photography from the very hot days in Riga at the end of last summer.

In my manual focusing, I tend to rely on my eyes for the very last focus corrections, so the dress really matters and Xiangning Li was very helpful with that blue because the brighter, the better.

Maria has been part of the junior circuit for almost too long and when she came to Riga in late August, I had her as my favourite to win the Grand Prix event. It took me by surprise when she finished in second in the short program but she skated an amazing free and watching it rinkside was just breathtaking. She's elegant, even during the warm up she creates beautiful images out of, it seems, nowhere.

But of course, I dug those photos out because later today she's competiting at the Youth Olympic Games! How will she do this time? I'm excited to see.

I will keep reminding people that those photos were taken using a 1971 lens and focused manually, so all of them are very much imperfect.
