In 2017, Isaac Hirsch and his company JIH Builders Group began a mass eviction campaign against the low-to-middle income rent-stabilized tenants at 693 Madison Street in Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn. In 2017, Isaac Hirsch and his company JIH Builders Group begun a mass eviction campaign against the low-to-middle income rent-stabilized tenants at 693 Madison Street in Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn. Many tenants were forced to leave, but several choose to stay and fight by forming a tenant association.

In the meantime, JIH Builders has used using various forms of harassment to punish and drive out the remaining tenants.

Tactics of harassment include: -Breaking into apartments, changing the locks and illegally locking out tenant leaders - In freezing temperatures going with hot water for over 4 days -Refusing to take rent and then fraudulently taking tenants to court for non-payment -Round the clock non-stop construction on vacant apartments - Industrial paint being used with fumes so toxic that an ambulance had to be called for a grandmother and two children - Putting a combination lock on the door to the basement, so tenants are unable to check meter readings. As a result, the gas and electric bills are higher than average - After a JIH Builders worker came to fix the broken roof door, the roof alarm has been continuously blaring day and night

Here we have men installing cameras right at people’s doors. We have not been notified about this work. What is the purpose of putting a camera right at tenants’ front doors?! We are rent stabilized tenants and this is yet another form of TENANT HARASSMENT.  

​H​ere are fumes and dust filling the hallways and entering our apartments. This is detrimental to our health. I have asthma and can’t even escape this inside of my own home, where I’m supposed to be “safe.” There are small children under the age of 2 living in this building. They are doing ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to protect us.
