Writer Questions
I was tagged by the amazing @@jillipenny ! Like a month ago + oops. Thank you!
How many works in progress do you have?
Ooooooh boy. I have 1 fic that’s ongoing and already partially published. I should really publish the next chapter, but I’ve lost interest in the game it’s based on, so it’s been hard to write lately. I’m over 180,000 words in though, so I want to finish it. Then I have 1 I’m working on now and definitely want to finish. I have at least 20 fics that I’ve written at least 1,000 words to but kind of dropped. I think at least 10 of those are over 3,000, and 3 or 4 are over 5,000. Those 4 I want to finish too, but I don’t know if that’s ever going to happen.
Do you/would you write fan fiction?
Every single WIP mentioned above is fanfiction. Oh yeah, I do have a non-fanfic piece i’ve written too and has a couple thousand words, but what’s four thousand words compared to 200,000+? I haven’t published all 200,000+, but they exist. Fanfiction is great, because I love exploring all the scenarios characters could be put in, and how they’d react to certain situations and what not. That and it’s a great way to fulfill angst/fluff needs that I can’t find elsewhere.
Do you prefer paper or eBooks?
Paper! eBooks are nice, and I like the convenience of being able to read something right away, but I love the feeling of paper on my fingers, and the weight of a book in my hand. It’s comforting. That, and it’s easier for me to find things in a paper book. It may seem strange, knowing you can search up keywords in ebooks, but with paper I get a feel for where things are. Paper books feel more real, and I love the look of a full bookshelf. It’s much more satisfying and pleasing than an ebook library, even if there are more books in that ebook library.
When did you start writing?
The first long original piece I wrote for fun was in sixth grade. My teacher said she really liked the stories I made for class, and suggested I write something on my own if I wanted because she thought I could do well, and knew I liked writing. I never finished the piece, but it was about some people getting stranded on an island and working to survive. I wrote two really long pieces (for being 12/13, at least) in 8th grade too, sort of for an assignment, but mostly because I liked writing (the assignment was I think 5+ pages. I wrote 19 and 25).
I really started to get into writing in 2014. The first thing I wrote was a time travel Final Fantasy VII fanfic. Except I got 38,000 words in and no time travel had happened yet, plus I felt the main character was OOC, so I dropped it. Since then, I’ve written on and off, but have almost always had an ongoing story to work on (whether I actually got my act together and wrote is another thing).
Do you have someone you trust that you share your work with?
I don’t know if anyone would be interested in my work before it’s published. I’m willing to share it with people though. More likely with the people I know IRL that follow me here, but yeah,
Where is your favorite place to write?
At home, either in my room, or in this one room that has glass doors and so many windows it’s absolutely filled with light in the daytime.
Favorite book as a child?
The Song of the Lioness books by Tamora Pierce.
Writing for fun or for publication?
For fun! Unless you count posting fanfiction online as publication. Then again, I still write for fun. I just also publish it.
Have you taken any writing classes?
None that haven’t been required.
What inspired you to write?
Wanting to read really specific things and either not finding them at all, or not finding enough of them.
Thanks for the tag! I don’t know who to tag, so I’ll leave it at that. If you want to do this. feel free.
