It was the start of December and it was bloody freezing. Everyone in Hogwarts dreaded their classes down in the dungeons for fear they would freeze. Snow was covering every inch of the grounds, making it look like something out of a fairy tale. If anyone wanted to go outside they had to be covered in gloves, hats, scarves the lot.
Due to the cold, sickness was spreading like wildfire. Everywhere you went you were in danger of getting sneezed on. And for one person in particular the castle was an obstacle course.
Lily Evans hated being sick. Because she hated not being able to go to class and not being ale to concentrate on anything. So obviously as the cold and flu's spread around Hogwarts she kept wrapped up and stayed well away from anyone who so much a sniffled. But of course, she got sick.
On Saturday afternoon she was alone in the Gryffindor common room, all the other Gryffindor's were at lunch, but she was wrapped up in quilts, lying on the couch beside the fire with a hot water bottle and a box of tissues. The Quidditch match was straight after lunch so Lily had the common room to herself for a few hours. Or at least she thought she did.
She realised she was wrong when she heard footsteps on the stairs. She sat up slightly to see who it was. It was James Potter. She groaned to herself. She hoped he would just walk by her and leave. No chance
"Alright Evans?" he asked, walking over in his Quidditch uniform.
"Apart from feeling like crap yeah I'm fine," she said, pulling the blanket around herself. He smiled at her.
"Yeah, Marlene mentioned you were sick." She made a face and he gave a small chuckle.
"Why aren't you at lunch?" she asked.
"Oh I was finishing up the final game plan," he grinned, "I'm guessing you're not coming." She shook her head.
"Nah, not-" She sneezed, pulling a tissue out of the box and blowing her nose.
"Sorry," she said afterwards, blushing slightly. James shook his head,
"We all blow our nose Evans." She shrugged, thinking about how horrible she probably looked.
But James didn't care. He thought she looked quite endearing on the couch in her pajamas's with her pick nose and cheeks. All he really wanted was to make her feel better, because it was obvious by her face that she was miserable.
"One sec," he said, before quickly walking out of the common room.
Lily watched the space he had left so suddenly for a while thinking about how different things were this year. Her and James Potter talked. She'd even consider him as a friend. This time last year she would have scoffed if anyone told her that would happen. In fact this year, she sort of fancied him...
She was snapped out of her thoughts by the common room door opening and James coming in. He was carrying a mug. He walked over to Lily and put it down on the table beside her. She looked up and him.
"What's this for?" He ran a hand through his hair.
"Well I know you love tea and I figured you needed cheering up." He smiled softly at her.
"Thank you," she said quietly.
"It's just the way you like it," he said, slowly walking away. "But I've got to go, match to play." He grinned at her and she smiled back.
"See you Potter."
"Later Evans." He turned to walk out the door but just before he closed it she called out.
"James!" He poked his head back in.
"Yes?"
"Good luck." He grinned at her and left.
Lily sat in the common room for a long time thinking about the messy-haired chaser.
