Sonic Youth - Sunday
I remember when I was younger, I would read Naked Lunch every year, and I noticed that every year I re-read it, I learned more about me than I did about the book. Because I saw more of how I had changed, in that time, than the book had changed. Because the book, of course, hadn’t changed at all: it’s always been there.

Jim O’Rourke: 1999 Peel Session
In honor of Jim’s marvelous, miraculous new record, Simple Songs streaming today, I wanted to share this 1999 Peel Session - one of only 2 or 3 “live” things of his I’ve ever been able to dig up (the sole full band show of which was this blog’s very first post). This “live” session for John Peel’s famed BBC radio show was apparently recorded in early 1999 at O’Rourke’s Chicago studio with him playing most everything, but each track feels more like a live cut than it’s studio counterpart. Though just 3 tunes, this session pretty perfectly captures the O’Rourke in the middle of the cycle that would produce the epic Drag City records/eps. “Halfway to a Threeway” from the ep of the same name kicks things off, followed by “Little Island Walking” (Eureka’s Japanese bonus track) and concluding with “Prelude to 110 or 220/Women of the World” from Eureka. ...so there you have it, enjoy! Also, should probably buy Simple Songs, as it is incredible. mp3s: Jim O’Rourke - 1999 Peel Session
Gastr del Sol - "The Seasons Reverse", 1998
September reverses and the equinoxes flip Winter slides into fall When glimpsed in leaps of nine months or more The seasons reverse They spring back and fall forward They reshuffle when you touch down after long intervals September reverses and the equinoxes flip Summer becomes spring The seasons reshuffle At a span of a year and a half September reverses and the equinoxes flip They reshuffle when you touch down after long intervals September reverses and the equinoxes flip Winter slides into fall They shuffle because it’s been more than two years First seeing you in a snowbank Then a sweater And then a sweater They reshuffle with leaps of some time or reshuffle with leaps of distance
