The top picture is an electronic message board that was on the road leading out of Hartsfield Airport on the Day Jim flew into Atlanta to work with Spirit of Atlanta the first time. He would leave an impression that was never forgotten.

The flag shows a picture of arranger and caption head Jim Ott, who tragically lost his life in a fatal car accident while on tour with the corps in 1980.

"In the early morning of July 8th the staff van while on its way to this show had a terrible accident which killed Jim Ott. Their music director-arranger of Spirit and also injuring his assistant brass instructor Lloyd Pesceola. Unknown to the Spirit members, as to what had happened, they were gathered into a gym and told about this terrible accident by the staff drill designer Ralph Pace. Hours later that night, you see here the Spirit members walking slowly onto the field wearing black armbands to perform an exhibition show dedicated to Jim Ott."
