Wow! Canal Jumping.
Just caught an episode of Globe Trekker on my local PBS station and the host was getting ready to participate in a Canal Jumping contest. Got to be honest with you on this one, I had never heard about this sport before. From what I understand it started out as a necessity. People needed to get over the canals so they took a pole and jumped.
Apparently people started thinking that they were better jumpers then the neighbors and so the competitions began. From this I have learned a few things. First, you don't have to spend a lot of money to participate in a sport. In Canal Jumping you just need a pole and a canal. Second, friendly competition is healthy and fun. Third, there is a sport for everyone.
So go out there and find a sport you like and enjoy it. My next adventure is wife carrying! Now that is another cool sport. . . .

One of the best things that I learned from football in high school was the "do an extra one" concept. Doing 3 reps of 10, do an extra rep, running 10 minutes, make it 11. You get the idea. Well, I have applied that in other parts of my life and it has helped me more times then I can remember. So the next time you reach a goal try to push a little harder. It could make a big difference.
today's running update.
My goal was to push another mini-triathlon this weekend but it was a little too chilly for a swim. I know, I am a wimp! It's warming up here in NC so I will probably get my twenty laps in this afternoon when Kim and Molly can tag along. In the end I am happy to say that I ran 6.4 miles and then biked 26.2 miles.
Next Sunday is my first bicycle race and I am excited
New Volkswagen Motorsport badge for my Puma!
Check out what I received in the mail yesterday! It's a metal Volkswagen Motorsport badge for my VW Puma. I know the purist will frown but I am going to put it on the end of my rear deck lid. Under this badge I will group all the cool things I want to add or adjust in the car like the engine, sway bars, short throw shifter and more. Do I need to remind my VW friends that there is a beautiful example of a PUMA at the official Volkswagen Museum over in Wolfsburg Germany? For me it all goes under the theme of "What if". What if the VW team in Wolfsburg took a closer look at this gem? What "sports" package would they offer? The only rule that I have is that any mod has to stay in the realm of Volkswagen or Porsche and within the 1976 to 1989 range. Well, it can't look stupid either. Have you hugged your VW today?
Random events lead to great discoveries!
I just discovered the Max Raabe and The Palast Orchester and instantly fell in love with their music. What was fascinating is the method I used to find them. My adventure began this morning when I saw a Facebook post from Metalica that contained links to songs from their Gelsenkirchen, Germany show. Next, I saw the eerie song "The memory remains". I always loved that song and was always enchanted by the voice of the lady in the studio version. So I searched for a wiki on the song and found out that her name was Marianne Faithfull. I then clicked on her wiki and found out that she had a colorful history in the music world. Near the end the post it pointed out that she had interest in music of Weimar-era Germany and performed in a production of The Three Penny Opera. This was now the shinny thing that passed by quickly, so I quickly changed gears. I continued to Google and found some interesting examples of the show. Apparently Cyndi Lauper had a similar interest since there were multiple examples of her performance also. Wanting more I googled “music of Weimar-era Germany” and that lead me to a post about the Max Raabe and The Palast Orchester and was so impressed with their style I decided to share it with all my friends. So today I have learned two things. The first is that the Internet was created for people like me who have attention issues. You can clearly see this from my random thoughts and loosely tied subjects. The second is the importance of expanding your mind, your tastes and who you are. It could help you improve your life in some odd way or at the least it could make it a bit more interesting!
