James Dean is a juvenile, lying down on the pedestrian’s area in a drunken condition with a toy monkey beside him. Out of nowhere, sounds of sirens appear and soon Police catches him and sends him to prison. While he was there, he encounters Judy and Plato, who were in the jail for a separate, yet similar reason. Plato got arrested for shooting puppies, as he was not very happy with himself. His father left him when he was only a kid, while his mother too was a busy individual, who preferred work and traveling more than anything else. The only person who raised her to an adult was his maid, who cared for him just like her child.

On the other hand, Police arrested Judy because she was found wandering on a curfew night in a flashy red dress. She is upset about her father and claims that he has stopped showing his affection since she has become an adult. Jim Stark’s story was not too much different either; he was a victim of the dominant mother and a weak father. His dad loves him, however, unable to deal with the prevailing attitude of his wife (Jim’s mom). What mattered the most for her was to win an argument to please her ego. Altogether, all three characters of the movie highlight the generation gap between parents and their kids, mainly because of their parents’ attitudes.
