Media literacy is at an all time low. I just saw someone state they didn't like Rebel Without A Cause because it was full of "misogyny and toxic masculinity".
IT IS A SOCIAL COMMENTARY ON MASCULINITY THAT IS THE WHOLE POINT.
A GUY LITERALLY DIES DRIVING HIS CAR OFF A CLIFF BECAUSE HE WANTS TO BE SEEN AS TOUGH.
That film is not promoting toxic masculinity. Its doing the opposite.
Also the knife fight scene starts as very obvious gay bashing. I know the Hays Code was in place at the time and nothing is out in the open, but COME ON! Plato is very obviously gay (his name is fucking Plato pointing to the fact his feelings are NOT platonic)
