It's very common to see sharks with childcare experience sporting a million little biting scars on their fins from letting babies chew on them. It's a badge of honor to be a chew toy

The guys Thresher considers their family come from different places and they kind of all speak a mixed variety of language/dialects at home. Moro is from the far north of the mainland and speaks Charcarian with a noticeable influence from a polar dialect, and his Inklish is pretty good but it’s obvious it’s a second language. Ship and Reef speak Coastal Charcarian; Reef is pretty comfortable with Inklish now but Ship has trouble responding with it. Jin is from Splatsville and his first language is Inklish, and he only started learning Charcarian as an adult and isn’t super comfortable speaking it. The main dialect of Charcarian seen in textbooks is mainland Coastal so that’s what Jin is most comfortable interpreting, but similar to Ship he has trouble responding even if he understood what was said. Meanwhile, the wider population of Cepha’s shark communities speak a distinct Cephan dialect of Charcarian originally derived mostly from the Coastal dialect. While the various dialects are mutually intelligible they’re different enough that a secondary learner would have many Pitfalls, you feel.

The main language getting used between them at home is definitely Charcarian, though Moro, Reef and Thresher will freely switch into Inklish as well, especially if speaking to Jin specifically. Jin and Ship mostly stick to their respective first languages. At this point they understand eachother just fine, it’s strangers that they’re still a bit shaky with…

Thresher’s accent, both in Inklish and Charcarian, can be best described as “ambiguously nonstandard”. Our little Buddy on the other hand is developing a vaguely Inkadian accent when speaking Inklish, because that is what the majority of their Inklish-speaking friends sound like. Wahoo
