He remembered that evening to be especially cool, gloomy, unlike the ordinary April day. Looking back, the weather was appropriate for the events to come. Not that he knew what exactly was going to happen, what had been driving her that day, the plans she had devised on her own. He knew nothing of it. And that was why he would always feel like this.

He rolled out the scroll before him just as the golden doors flew open, the woman clad in metal bounding inside, the council members beside him looking down at their own papers with vacant stares, as if her sudden appearance made no difference to them. Of course, to Sokka the clacking of her metal heels were a bit hard to ignore.

“Chief Beifong.” He regarded her with confidence, and despite being blind, she didn’t hesitate to climb the stairs, resting her forearm on top of the scroll displayed before him. “Can we know the reason why you have pleased this council with your presence?” He noticed the bitter smiled that climbed onto her lips.
