First off, a simple introduction.
Jiroko is simply a prison for nonhumans. In 1920, scientists looking for a cure for typhoid came across this massive clearing in the middle of the amazon. It looks like all the trees were simply sliced to pieces, and carcasses of multiple animals were scattered around. The strange thing was, was that the carcasses looked as if they were burned alive, while some were frozen solid! They then come across a black bloodstain in the middle, while a strange body lies in the center. When they take it back, and run some tests, they realize the blood literally purifies everything it touches! Pathogens, viruses, diseases, all broken down and wiped clean.
Oh, it gets better. The scientists get excited and start to synthesize the blood, and then sell it to all these big named hospitals as a "miracle cure". Sure enough, all who took it were cleansed. But, when the tested had offspring, that's when the real side effects shown though.
The children had horrible deformities, some too hideous to name. Fearing their lives, they harvest these children and have the doctors tell the family it was S.I.D.S. (sudden infant death syndrome). It was then the scientists realized that these deformed children aren't human, therefore aren't under the same laws as humans. Thus, uncouth testing began. All sorts of unnamable experiments took place, and since the children kept pouring in, who was to say they were in the wrong?
Now the fun part. Finally, after some "persuasion" from the President of the time, ProjectJiroko began. In short, military testing. On children. The government covered it up, said it was "an orphanage." Said orphanage, "Open Wings", became the worlds 3rd largest superpower. And then, they made the biggest mistake. They started to splice these children's DNA.... with animals.
When they did, they unlocked an ancient DNA sequence of the Gods themselves. What they never realized, was that nonhumans existed WAY before humans did. By 1980, over 300,000 facilities were set up, all over the world. Jiroko became the worlds darkest secret. The very source of Corruption and Depravity. Millions of animal/human hybrids were kept in cages, used like lab rats. Then, in 1995, Kira is born. This, is the turning point of history. For the first time, a nonhuman was Born perfectly functional, and perfectly balenced. Subject 000-001, Kira was no ordinary child. He can reconstruct his entire body, even change the genetic makeup. He could shape-shift his whole being.
A massive rebellion broke out, but was quickly subdued when they were all knocked out from the collar they wore. As a safety precaution, the collar pumps a continuous flow of neurotoxins into their bloodstream, weakening them. It was then they had the idea for a way to weed out the weak ones: the Carnivals began. Simply put, one "leader" from each cell is thrust into a giant room, and fights to the death until one is left standing. If 15 minutes go by, they all die. Also, the ones who die, their cellmates get sent into the Research and Development center. It's where they are torn apart in the cruelest of ways for the sake of "science". Kira joins the fight, to protect his little sister. After 7 years of fighting, though, his sister gets brutally raped and murdered in front of him. His only sanity, just died.
Well, that's when shit gets crazy. Kira looses control completely, and kills hundreds. Human and non human. He escapes, but without his left arm (got shot off) he passes out in the woods and then gets found....by a human boy.
Kira then learns the kid is the son of a rich billionaire, none other that Sarah Sparks, head C.E.O of Healtec, the largest hospital chain in the nation, and ironically one of the hospitals the "miracle cure" was sold to.
Yep. Kira then decides to stay there, and heal. But five months later, he returns. And this time he's ready. With his bare hands, he tears the damn place appart, and killing everyone inside. The slaves are freed, all 373 of them. They stay at the mansion, where Kira keeps them safe. Then, Kira learns one thing. That Jiroko is far bigger than he imagined. He was looking at taking on the 3rd largest corporation worldwide. By himself.
