Most self ship fanfics suck, because the authors dont want to write themselves as in a relationship with that specific character, they want to write themselves in a relationship with a cliche who acts nothing like the character in question lmao.
A fanfic tag may say that is Nanami x reader but when you actually read it the fic is more like generic daddy dom x reader. Like people who write those make the characters act almost like the bizzaro world version of themselves.
They turn kind and wholesome characters like Gojo, Nanami or Higuruma into domestic abusers who kidnap you and make you do ugly kink shit, or write characters who are plainly cruel and evil as Naoya, Sukuna or Mahito as sweet little babies who give you good nigth kisses and buy you pads and chocolate during your period, just for the sake of the plot/porn.
Like, I get wanting to date a good guy who actually has a dark side or villain who is super evil and shows his swee side only good to you and none one else, but when I see fanfics where the character is totally out of character I'm just like, you can just remplace the name of Fushiguro Toji with Bryan McSomething and boom! You have a new romance book ready to publish with no need to make actual Toji fans dissappointed because you wrote Toji like a suave sugar daddy rich CEO instead as the violent freeloaner hitman bum we all know and love.
