I have a very very heavy heart today... This weekend** has been a dream, the best few days of my life. My entire world is being turned upside-down. I have already begun to change as a person. I am starting to truly believe that this is real, that maybe I belong, as people like Rev. Jesse Jackson Sr. , US Secretary of Ed. Dr. John B. King Jr., and First Lady Michelle Obama tell us that we do matter, that this is possible. But, if you only knew the incredible people I have been staying with -- my new peers, friends, and family -- you would understand that these unbelievable speeches were not even the best part of this weekend... These scholars are the silent heroes of our time. They may not be celebrities, but they are the innovators, teachers, builders, caregivers, philanthropists, leaders, and great thinkers behind some of the world's most important projects. They are the pure personification of resilience and authenticity. You may not hear about us, but we are going to truly change the world behind the scenes one step at a time. I know it. I am incredibly lucky to be apart of this phenomenal group of people. Words cannot express my gratitude. I am blown away. It's amazing what can happen when you... Think Big. Work Hard. Achieve. #sw16 #jkcf **In case you did not know, I was recently accepted as a 2016 Jack Kent Cooke Undergraduate Transfer Scholar. I spent this past weekend with many of the other scholars at the NCC in Leesburg, Virginia. The JKCF is one of the largest and most selective scholarships and academic programs in the nation. JKC is going to provide me with a world of opportunities. It is paying for my entire Bachelor's degree with the possibility of even more, allowing me a wealth of academic resources, and connecting me with some of the most talented, passionate, and good-hearted human beings on the planet. These scholars are the true leaders of tomorrow. I am the luckiest person alive. As reality sets in, as it is confirmed again and again that, yes, I did accomplish this, I oscillate between utter awe and sobs of joy.
