No I very much do have the right to call the folks who think that Ted Kord was only in five issues pre-DC and insist that the Justice League International/America run is essential reading for him fake fans.

Like first up, it demonstrates that the fuckers straight up didn't do their fucking research of pre-DC Ted if they ignore the other eight comics he was in pre-DC.

Secondly, them not doing their fucking research is *entirely* why they like the 'out of character to hell and back because the writers didn't do fucking research b/c the writers wanted to use him how ever they felt like using him for their shitty jokes Ted Kord/Blue Beetle 2 in name only' version of Ted to consider it to be essential reading.

Thirdly, it ignores that the JLI run is... supplementary reading at best. None of the actually good Ted Kord stories where he's written well and in character mention the JLI shit in anything much more than a handful of throwaway lines. It's only the shit that uses the crappy OOC version of Ted that leans heavy into the JLI shit.

Fourthly, a lot of these fuckers are actually just JLI fans [or more often than not JLI yaoi fans] given how often I see them hate on the good shit with Ted Kord and/or dismiss anything that doesn't tie back to the JLI stuff and outright dont fucking properly do their research on Ted Kord.

No, but like literally, I didn't hate any of the Justice League International comics I'd read (they were meanspirited and bigoted but I didn't particularly hate them) until I actually did fucking research on the characters I was reading them for and its like it clicked to me that the JLI/JLA comics are fucking garbage.

(Like yes, they're also shit cause of all the bigoted shit in the writing but like that's the general baseline in mainstream Usono superhero comics, its harder to find ones that arent bigoted trash)

But realizing that characters like Ted Kord and Booster Gold whole ass just had their characterizations mangled all to fuck to the point that they are blatently not the same characters as their pre-JLI incarnations and dont even come across as heroic at all just really made it click that the JLI comics are an absolute trashfire.

Just between how meanspirited and gods awful the attempts at humor are, how more racist than baseline DC comics it is with the brownface shit, the mangling of characterization, and just how fucking flippantly mean the writers were to the fans who had issues with the way they were handling characters? I hate the Justice League International (and their extensions and spinoffs) comics. I'd put them among the worst comics I've read ever and that's damming given I've read hundreds of issues of comics just in the past year.

I think if you read Booster Gold's og comic run and came away thinking that without his stint in the Justice League International that he'd be nothing more than an attention hungry money grubbing loser? I don't think you paid much attention to what had been going on with him AND that you probably mistook what he got flattened into in the JLI run with his original characterization.

Like... if you think that becoming a time cop who has to be a laughing stock loser as a cover is more interesting than the types of stories you could potentially get with a formerly poor person trying to balance genuine heroism with trying to make a comfortable living when the only skills of value he's got being his looks and the fact that he's a superhero after illegally immigrating to a whole different time period... then you do you.

I know what's a lot more interesting to me.

But like? Why would I want to see a character get dunked for no good reason in a shit comic run that just wanted to use the character for 'those two guys' comic relief shit and then have the shit from said shitty comic run follow the character around for the rest of their existence?

Like? That's probably one of the worst fates I can think of for a fictional character.

I'd prefer to see more Booster Gold stuff that's entirely free from the stank of Justice League International just like Ted Kord occasionally gets with stuff like Convergence: Blue Beetle (which was so good, I loved it) or even with fucking LAW (also a fucking trash racist comic but at lest not as shit with character handling as JLI).

pls fucking let Ted go back into retirement and be support he literally doesn't want and never wanted to be a superhero, he was only Blue Beetle b/c he felt guilty as hell for getting Dan killed and wanted to follow the man's last wishes.

If Jaime is the Blue Beetle, Ted doesn't need to be in costume, the Blue Beetle mantel is in good hands with Jaime.

Also Ted Kord, if you want to make him Jaime's mentor would not be fucking pulling that living vicariously through a teenager shit that happened in the 2016 run. Unlike the 2016 and the Justice League International and other JLI-derived media 'Ted Kords in name only', Ted Kord is actually a decent fucking person and gives a shit about other people, he's not gonna do that type of shit
