what do you think Sirius's reaction was when he was told Lily and James were expecting?
I’m sure he was very happy for them, and excited about the prospect of being a godfather once they’d asked him. But also we have to remember that all this was during a dark period of war, and I’m sure Sirius as well as James and Lily themselves probably had some worried thoughts about the world that the baby would be born into. Even before the whole prophecy thing came about, it must have been a scary prospect to be brining a child into a world that seemed to be getting darker by the day.
I do think that Sirius perhaps felt somewhat melancholy by the news as well. He’s happy for them, of course, but it just cements the fact even further that James and Lily are their own family now, and I can imagine that leaves Sirius wondering where he quite fits into all this. He came round to the idea that James wasn’t just his anymore and that he’d have to share him with Lily, but now his best friend is going to be a father as well, I can imagine it rather hammered home to Sirius that he didn’t quite fit into this new family dynamic that the Potters have got going on. Rather a sad thought, really.
