Tess: When I said bring me something back from the beach. I meant like a seashell or an oyster or something. Daxter wrestling a seagull: Fucking say that next time.

I’m not asking for a fanfic, just some ideas to help “fill in the blanks” for a Jak and Daxter AU inspired by a dream I recently had, in my dream, Jak and Daxter get separated, and Jak is forced to move on, almost a year later, when Dax finally finds Jak, he’s already part of the group from Jak 2, but he doesn’t remember Daxter, at all, neither does Kiera, making Daxter have to form their friendship from scratch, my main problem is not making it seem like Jak and Kiera not remembering Daxter is because of the usual ‘gets hit on the head and forgets everything’, I’m also trying to put in some stuff that will make it more bittersweet, but without being too cheesy.

Maybe the longer they’re in this new timeline without Daxter the foggier the memories get.

First it’s an accidental blank on his name. Then forgetting there were three of them on sentinel beach together. Then trying to remember why exactly they had to find Gol and Mia. To… fix something?? Find something?

Jak remembered seeing Gol and Mia on forbidden island.. why was he there again? Right to explore, push against the limits set by Samos.

Samos talked to him about… something.. probably the weird stuff on forbidden island.

That’s why he was sent after Gol and Mia…

He dreams of a furry orange creature, details are fuzzy. Strangely familiar laughter and screams haunt him as though there’s something on his shoulder, or behind him. The feeling of a phantom grip has him itching at the same shoulder.

It goes with time, fluidly. Slow at first then rapidly the more they don’t think about him. It quickly becomes a distant memory, then nothing at all. As though he were nothing more than something imaginary a lonely kid would dream up.

Maybe when daxter comes back the lost memories start to come back. But only after Daxter does something familiar. Maybe a joke here clicked his name in place. A laugh there places the missing body in the boat to forbidden island. A scream put Daxter’s weight back on his shoulder.

Finally jak smiles for the first time in almost a year, his eyes connect with the ottsel.

“Dax, where have you been?”
