A long time ago, in the early 2000s, I wrote Jak and Daxter fan fiction and it was full of OCs. That fic is now lost to time (deleted from ff.net and the computer it was on is long gone), but I still remember most of the OCs and have really old drawings of them. So I have given them new life and made them better and less cringe lol

I doubt I'll do anything else with them, but it was a fun exercise to remake them and I love the results.

Guys more art!!! This time of Vixen and Jak! I posted Vixen a while ago but accidently deleted like EVEYRTHING I had of her oopsies,,, But I started replaying the games again recently, so that's super fun (˶˃ ᵕ ˂˶)

This was a lot of experimentation with how I finish and render and whatnot, but I'm happy with how this came out!

Since May is Mermay, I wanted to share what I’ve been working on. I wrote a Jak and Daxter fanfic called The Deep Discord, a mermaid AU that combines elements from The Precursor Legacy, Jak II, and Jak 3, but reimagined in the North Atlantic Ocean. I turned the fanfic into a jukebox musical songfic, though I’m still figuring out who else sings besides my OC, Jakleen. I imagine her having a beautiful voice, so I gave her song-manipulation powers as well.

In my story, Jak and Jakleen grow up in the mangrove-filled Sandover Village alongside their friends Daxter and Keira Hagai, the adoptive daughter of their mentor, Samos. They live relatively simple lives—attending school, doing chores for Samos (like gathering eco from kelp and sea plants), and playing music together.

Everything changes when the four of them turn fifteen—the age when tritons (whose ears vary in both shape and length) are allowed to swim to the surface for the first time. Shortly after, Jakleen experiences a prophetic dream about events unfolding in Atlantis. Acting on this vision, Samos brings the group there—but they are immediately attacked by Baron Praxis’s militarized police force, the Krimzon Sharks, led by his right-hand or should I say, right-tentacle enforcer, Erol (a cecaelia).

They are rescued by Torn, Tess, Ashelin, and Vin, but during the encounter, Jak is injured by dark eco–infected coral, granting him the ability to transform into Dark Jak. Unbeknownst to the others, Jakleen is also affected—her exposure awakens psychic abilities, allowing her to launch psionic attacks and weaponize her voice, though it initially causes severe migraines. The dark eco also broke their silence too.

Later, Jakleen and Daxter discover a mysterious trunk containing a conch shell, old vinyl records, human stuff, and light eco pearls. The pearls grant both Jak and Jakleen the ability to channel light eco—awakening Jak’s Light Jak form and giving Jakleen enhanced psychic defense and healing abilities. This stabilizes Jak’s condition and cures Jakleen’s migraines.

As the story progresses, they meet new allies like Sig, Jinx, and Vin, build relationships, and navigate personal conflicts. Jakleen develops feelings for Phoenix while fending off unwanted attention from characters like Erol, Jinx, and Razer. I dunno which parts can I add here.

Eventually, the Krimzon Sharks launch a major attack, capturing Samos, Keira, Torn, Sig, and Ashelin. Jak is confronted and nearly defeated by Erol, while Jakleen, Daxter, Phoenix, and Tess narrowly escape. In desperation, Jakleen blows into the conch shell, unintentionally summoning an Atlantean mer-army riding orcas, led by Damas, the king of Atlantis himself. Together, they defeat Baron Praxis, Erol, and the Krimzon Sharks, rescuing their allies.

From there, Jak and Jakleen uncover the truth behind the conflict between Haven Reef and Atlantis—and a deeper revelation: they are fraternal twins, and Damas and Hera, the king and queen of Atlantis are their parents (Hera is also my OC).

Soon after, the Metal Heads emerge as monstrous sea creatures led by Metal Kor in a massive leviathan-like form, threatening both cities. During the chaos, Jakleen rescues two young merkids who resemble her and Jak, guiding them to safety with a lullaby.

In the final battle, the forces of Haven Reef and Atlantis unite. Jak ultimately defeats Metal Kor. In the aftermath, Jak, Jakleen, Daxter, Keira, Tess, Ashelin, and Torn officially form a band. At the same time, Jak and Jakleen reclaim their royal status as prince and princess of Atlantis, with Daxter being adopted into the royal family as a prince. The story also establishes its main couples: Jak × Keira, Jakleen × Phoenix, Daxter × Tess, and Torn × Ashelin.

For character design, I based their tails on different aquatic species. Jak and Jakleen have orca tails, a trait they share with Damas and Hera. Daxter’s tail is inspired by a clownfish, Keira’s by a purple queen anthias, Tess’s by a freshwater angelfish, Ashelin’s by a tiger shark, and Torn’s by a hammerhead shark. For other characters, Phoenix’s tail is based on a bottlenose dolphin, Baron Praxis’s on a great white shark, and Erol’s tentacles on a blue-ringed octopus. I also added supernatural skin tones and aquatic ear shapes to match their designs.

I also included ethnicity headcanons: Jak and his family are Afro-Hispanic (Mexican with Puerto Rican and Egyptian descent), which complements their features; Jakleen styles her curls and often teases Jak by braiding or tying up his hair. Daxter is Italian-American with Irish roots, Keira Hagai is South Korean, Ashelin Praxis is Argentinian-British, Torn is of Indigenous American and Caucasian descent, Tess has a Southern American “Southern belle” vibe, Ximon is fair-skinned (possibly Californian American), Taryn is Greek, Kleiver has an Australian accent, Jinx has a Brooklyn accent with Italian and Dutch descent, Phoenix is British-Caribbean (possibly Montserratian, Bermudan, Cuban, Dominican, Honduran, or Puerto Rican), Erol has Italian heritage, and Razer is French-Japanese.

Only Jak, Jakleen, Daxter, Keira, Tess, Torn, and Ashelin are shown using instruments, which can transform into weapons. Jak’s guitar transforms into a trident, Jakleen’s microphone becomes a scepter, Daxter’s drumsticks can summon his drum set and double as tonfas, Keira’s keyboard turns into a staff, Tess’s synth becomes a wand, Ashelin’s guitar transforms into a glaive, and Torn’s bass shapeshifts into a curved sword inspired by his knife. Other characters use traditional weapons like spears, polearms, and swords.

Since the merfolk in this AU possess superhuman traits—such as aquatic zoolingualism, underwater breathing, enhanced strength, and speed—they also have unique abilities. Jak and Jakleen can both channel eco energy, but in different ways. Jak uses eco to enhance his physical abilities and transform into Dark Jak (with a moray eel tail) and Light Jak (with a lionfish-inspired tail). Jakleen’s eco manifests through psionic abilities, amplifying her telekinesis, telepathy, precognition, and other psychic powers. Keira also retains eco-based abilities, though I’m still developing powers for Daxter, Tess, Torn, Ashelin, and the others.
