being bisexual is wild
because you spend all this time in a culture that tells you ‘it’s just a phase’ and ‘you’ll settle back down (into heteronormativity)’ and more likely than not hearing this from your own family
and then you step out there and interact with the lgbtq+ community only to be told ‘it’s just a phase’ and that you’re ‘just a straight that’s playing around’ or ‘a gay that just hasn’t experienced enough yet’ and you hear this from your own girlfriend or boyfriend and you realize that no matter who you end up with someone is going to feel like they’ve proved you wrong about your own sexuality and someone is going to feel like you’re still faking something and it’s just incredibly isolating, which is insane given that you’re bisexual and basically have the potential to be romantically and/or platonically attracted to pretty much anyone.
being bisexual is also wild because they keep making movies with, like, oscar isaac and rebecca ferguson together and you just gotta sit there In Bisexual Distress
the parent trap (1998) is such a comfort film.
does it make a ton of sense? no.
is the whole premise sort of toxic? yes.
but does it also contain the lines ‘I now have every bottle ever made’ ‘you do?’ ‘I do,’ and does it also feature our dad-energy-dad and most elegant and adorable mom from the 90s, dennis quaid and natasha richardson? yes. yes it does.
can you believe that anakin skywalker turned to the dark side because he was jealous of obi-wan’s status as the Galaxy’s Hottest DILF despite anakin being the one married with kids? wild
every once in a while I remember the story of one of the neighbors I had growing up and one of the funniest power moves ever.
The family next door to us was pretty typical for the area. three kids, some land, some farm animals, and a married couple squabbling through their forties.
The husband was one of those guys who was always at work, and he had this knack of somehow pretending to be a manly man’s man that could handle anything while working a corporate job and letting his family handle most of the rough and tumble of semi-farm life.
The wife was the epitome of 2000s cowgirl but also, just a full grown woman that knew just what she wanted and did what she liked. She loved pink and high heels and wine and spas, and she loved wading through the mud after autumn storms to go take care of the chickens. She loved rom coms and also liked tinkering with the tractor and the truck. Neon purple gardening gloves and hot pink rain boots, always muddy. It was strong ‘coming of age film female character who can Do Both because she’s feminine AND cool’ vibes but it wasn’t deliberate, it was just because she was her, and it was awesome.
And she wanted to repaint the interior of the house.
It had been the same shades of bland builder’s white and yellow since they moved in and she was sick of it.
So she ran the idea by her husband. He said no.
She asked again. He said no.
She came up with a very specific plan and determined how she could handle all the painting herself. He STILL said no.
So this woman waits until he leaves for ten days on a business trip and she gets going.
Out come the tarps, the tape, the brushes, the rollers, the twilight t-shirt and purple sweatpants, and bucket after bucket of pink in a shade that probably isn’t produced anymore but resembled most closely a pastel piggy bank. She scrapped her entire painting plan and went to town with just the pink.
By the time her husband came home ten days later, every single wall in every single room except the bathrooms and the children’s bedrooms were the same shade of pink. The evidence was gotten rid of, the furniture moved back, and wall decor was reinstalled.
And this man walks back in his house and DOES NOT NOTICE.
Because for all his huffing and puffing and putting his foot down, this poor buffoon…is extremely color blind.
It took him EIGHT MONTHS to mention to his wife that the walls looked “lighter.”
“Not lighter,” she said, rinsing mulch from under her acrylic pink nails. “Pink.”
One year later they were divorced and she had the house, the kids, and all the animals… And two floors and a basement worth of pretty, pink walls.
It’s been years now, but I know this woman is THRIVING out there somewhere.
soooooooo tired of carrying the weight on my two shoulders of all the problems that I, myself, have created. absolutely unfair
