Slick traveler Dan Kehoe (Gable) catches wind of this strange situation and decides to charm the four women, Sabina (Parker) Birdie (Nichols) Ruby (Willes) and Oralie (Shane) in hopes of eventually enjoying the spoils.
Before long, however, the lonely females begin competing for Dan, disintegrating into a cut-throat battle royal for his heart. (United Artists)

John Ireland, Dennis Hopper, Jo Van Fleet, and Kirk Douglas on set of GUNFIGHT AT THE O.K. CORRAL (John Sturges, 1957)
Le Locataire was first screened at the Cannes Film Festival on 24 May 1976, before its official release in France 2 days later (it was first shown in the US in New York City, as The Tenant, in June).
Roman Polanski and Gérard Brach (who had worked with Polanski on Repulsion, Cul-de-sac, and The Fearless Vampire Killers) adapted Roland Topor's 1964 novel, and stars Polanski (who also directed), along with Isabelle Adjani, Melvyn Douglas, Jo Van Fleet, and Shelley Winters in what has been described as the "first Kafkaesque horror film" and an obvious influence on The Shining. It was, however, poorly received when it was first released, but its reputation has improved significantly since.
