Hello! Thank you so much for the singing tips, as well as thank you to everyone else who added on! I mainly asked because my vocal coach and my performing arts teacher at my school have completely different views on it and I wanted to know your thoughts too! If it isn't an inconvenience, could you share some general singing tips?
yes i can definitely share some tips!! i’ve been singing for a while so here are some quick things i’ve picked up:
- a lot of those high notes you’re afraid of are actually achievable. you just have to get out of your own head
- never underestimate the power of a good warmup. your vocal cords are important and need warming up like every other muscle in your body
- breath is EVERYTHING
- most of singing is mind over matter. if you’re scared of a note or a phrase or pronunciation, it’s less likely you’ll get it. practice makes perfect!
- you’re not going to be an amazing singer right away. let yourself make mistakes. really! i know it sounds stupid but i was held back for a while because i wouldn’t let myself sound bad! let your voice crack. let yourself miss a note. practice is practice for a reason. you don’t have to be perfect as long as you’re learning.
- relax. take a few minutes before any rehearsal or performance and focus on yourself. are you thirsty? do you need to stretch? your voice will come easier if you know that your body is relaxed and doesn’t need anything.
- water is GOLD. just don’t ice it too much. room temperature water is perfect for rehearsals and tea is good for before performances.
i hope these help! these tips apply to all the other anons that asked me about this, too!
