"I did!" Another tandem burst of of shotgun fire, and then Jo was shoving her notebook at Dean. "I painted them on the walls before the sun went down!"

"Which wall?"

"That one!"

Dean crossed the room to the wall and cursed. "Were you trying to ward against banshees?!"

"Poltergeists!"

"Well this isn't what it looks like!"

"Would you just fix it?!" Jo snarled as she leveled her shotgun at the shrieking specter and fired.

"Next time you need warding, call Sam!" Dean snapped back as he got to work.

Okay but Dean and Jo showering together. Not even inherently sexual, but like after a tough hunt, getting back to the motel and taking a shower together. Helping each other wash off the blood and grime, being gentle around bruises and tenderly cleaning injuries, asking the other "When did that happen?" and sharing stories of their fights that day. Jo gives him scolding looks for his wounds he suffered from being reckless, but saves him the lecture for now cause they're both too exhausted for it. Just being still, enjoying this intimate closeness, knowing they could've lost each other today and so so grateful they didn't.

Dean wanted a better life for Jo than he could have ever offered and that's why they wouldn't have worked out in that particular point of both of their timelines.

Dean loved her but didn't think he was good enough for her and thought that he as a person was generally bad and therefore it would hurt her in the end.

Jo and Dean could have never worked because of the palace Dean was in mentally, but given a few years Jo could have helped build Dean up and they would have been cute together.
