MARCH UPDATE
IT’s International Women’s Day, which I always enjoy so much: for all the fantastic stories concerning female growth and empowerment to be encountered on the airwaves, telly, socials and so on. So... I thought I would add my little bit concerning all the great behind-the-scenes stuff going on in my own life. 2018 is certainly shaping up as one of my most challenging years yet as I work to improve my health while taking on some new pieces of work in order to develop my skills.
We’re so close to finishing the mixing for Lilith Shrugs! Lilith will be out end-of-year, but in the meantime I’ll be heading back to Slovenia to commence work on the soundscape for The Summer Book, an experimental puppet theatre piece under the auspices of the Lutkovno Gledališče v Ljubljani.
Work continues on The Soldiers’ Wife project, with performances scheduled in April and continued community workshopping in FNQ with the War Widows Guild in August. This project has proven valuable to participants and artists alike and I could just about write a PhD on the therapeutic value of song writing in situations of trauma, how projects like this one contribute to the development of the artist, and how communities benefit from practices such as ours. It’s a privilege to be a part of The Soldier’s Wife Project.
I’m also proud to be doing a little backing vocal work with legendary indigenous artist Joe Geia this year - dates will be in the calendar soon. It’s lovely to play the support role for artists such as Joe.
Finally - towards the new year I’ll make a start on producing an album of Lydia Fairhall’s songs under the Tigerlilly banner. The songs were written to be performed as a part of the highly successful Malthouse Theatre production “Heart Is A Wasteland”.
