Song Review: The Avett Brothers - “Ain’t No Man”

Propelled by a fat bassline, a bit of bass drum and ample foot stomps and handclaps, the Avett Brothers’ latest single is anthemic but derivative.

Immediately catchy and infectious, “Ain’t No Man” also a grows quickly stale with repeated listens.

Taking obvious inspiration from Queen’s “We Will Rock You” and paying a bit of homage to the Wood Brothers, “Ain’t No Man” is destined to become an in-concert singalong as the band employs gospel-style vocals to reinforce the uplifting lyrics.

You gotta serve something, ain’t that right?/I know it gets dark, but there’s always the light/you don’t have to buy in to get into the club/trade your worries/you gotta show up if you wanna be seen/if it matters to you, it matters to me/I’m gonna fall hard, yeah I know I am/when the clouds crack up, I’ll laugh with them
