Waste Not Want Not
This 16th century bible commentary on the Prophets was bound with two “waste” manuscript leaves as pastedowns.
We’ve identified the content of the manuscript leaves as being from De Excessu Fratris by Saint Ambrose (ca. 340-397), a work about the death of the author’s brother. The text is from separate, non-contiguous sections of the work, so we’re guessing other parts of this manuscript are out there in other books!
This book was owned by the Rev. John Barnard of Marblehead, Mass. (1681-1770) who gave it and other books to Harvard after the great fire of 1764.

I went cold. I was horrified at the thought that I might have killed a driver. He was on fire. I was shaken and I had already made up my mind: if he had died, I was out of the business. I would have quit on the spot.

We had John Watson at that time and he was also a very good driver. He liked a particular sort of setup which involved quite a soft front end regard spring and roll bar, with an aero balance that was quite low as well. It was a difficult setup to try to achieve but if you could get in the envelope, so to speak, and develop a setup that suited him, then he could be amazingly quick. And the good thing about John is, he would complain all through the weekend while he's trying to achieve this difficult setup but come race day, the race face would come on and he'd just really give it full welly and do all he could.
