20-year-old Barbra Streisand’s debut album was released on 25 February 1963.
Streisand insisted on creative control for the album, rejecting the label’s title (Sweet and Saucy Streisand) and their insistence on including “pop hits.”
The Barbra Streisand Album went on to sell more than 1 million copies and was nominated for 5 Grammy Awards, including Record of the Year (”Happy Days Are Here Again”), and Best Engineered Recording.
It received the Album of the Year and Best Vocal Performance (Female), and Best Album Cover (John Berg, art director) awards.
