West Hollywood Honors The Stigma Project

The "Creative City" awards Stigma Project cofounders each a "key to the city" for their hard work in reducing HIV stigma.

Last month, West Hollywood City Councilmember John Duran attended the U.S. Conference on AIDS in New Orleans, where we saw Stigma Project's founders Chris Richey and Scott McPherson give a keynote speech at a plenary luncheon sponsored by Gilead Sciences. They spoke about launching the organization and the progress they've made. Duran, who had known of the organization prior, but not the story behind it, felt captivated to honor the two West Hollywood residents by awarding them a traditional "key to the city." The ceremony was held at the WeHo City Council Chambers and was presented by both Duran and Mayor Pro Tempore John D'Amico, both of whom are openly HIV-positive.
