when people said that peter capaldi was in torchwood i thought it would be like… a small part in one episode. he’s a MAJOR character in children of earth??? honestly between his role in this and the fires of pompeii it’s kind of a miracle that he was actually cast as the doctor 👀

The thing is, Harriet Jones was right.

The Doctor isn't always there when they're needed, when the Earth is in dire straits from an alien threat. Sometimes UNIT isn't enough. Or Torchwood. So what do you do then? The fancy solution of the Children of Time from the show canon is one thing, but it's like a single use matchbook. You can't put that together every time. Sometimes all you are, all you can be, is John Frobisher who realizes that these aliens are going to consume his children whole with no way for him to stop them.

Except one. It's been nearly twenty years and Capaldi's performance in that scene still haunts me. Sometimes there are no good decisions. Only ones that you can live with, only ones that limit suffering.

Torchwood children of earth changes you forever. Holy shit, how does one righter create some of the most depressing and horrific scenes in all of televison. ***MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD*** I think the death of John Frobisher is the most saddening and horrifying scene I will ever see. The speech impacts you, everything leading up to the scene itself, and the four gunshots after John closes the door, piercing through the music will never not make me cry. Jesus christ.
