Big Star from the album ‘Radio City’, cover shot by William Eggleston.
Christopher Branford Bell (January 12, 1951 – December 27, 1978) he founded Big Star and created wonderful solo recordings such as “I Am the Cosmos” and “You and Your Sister”. A gigantic talent largely unappreciated during his short life but has now become a major inspiration for Indie Rock and a multitude of well known musicians like Beck, R.E.M., Teenage Fanclub, Primal Scream, Afghan Whigs, Pete Yorn, Wilco, The Posies, Foxygen, The Lemon Twigs, and The Replacements.
If you’ve ever watched That 70’s Show, then you’ve heard a cover of Chris’s work “In the Streets” theme song by Cheap Trick.

“In the Street”, “Thirteen”, “Watch the Sunrise”, and “Ballad of El Goodo” are among the great cuts on their first album, ironically titled #1 Record. The opening track “Feel” is a guitar laden rocker with howling vocals by the wonderfully talented Chris Bell.
