The translation of Song at Midnight (1985) has been delayed, but I will be working on the subtitle sync again shortly. In the meantime, here is another example of the same technology, OpenAI's Whisper being used to transcribe John Griggs' voiceover of the Man With the Lantern sequence. The subtitles automatically enable now whenever you view the Chaney film with the Lee Erwin score on my channel. Manual adjustments were made where needed.

For those unaware, John Griggs was a stage and radio actor who recorded a voiceover for the famous? infamous? Man with a Lantern scene. It was not recorded for the film for its re-release, but copies with it had been traded among collectors in the years following. I think it sounds remarkably authentic myself. This is how all future videos uploaded to the channel will be, in order to make them fully accessible. Older uploads will get this treatment as well but it may take some time.

But I wanted to highlight this specifically as it’s pretty well done and the best way to watch this scene imo.
