I noticed a familiar name on U2's How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb – Chris Thomas. He's one of those producers who worked with many, so no surprise we already heard his clients on this blog. We could consider his collaborations with Roxy Music after they got abandoned by Brian Eno to be some of his early triumphs, since he helmed Stranded, Country Life and Siren, which we could see as their trilogy of moving on from Mr. Eno. Nonetheless, these records reflect the latter's absence, because they still deploy the tricks similar to his, yet they're used more methodically, i.e. they're no longer an ingredient, they're a seasoning. You see, Roxy Music with Eno resembled an anarchic circus, whereas the group without him before their 70's breakup felt like a retro-garde ballet.

"El Amor es la Droga" y cualquiera lleva la contraria a Bryan y Roxy. No me podía resistir a subir el original de 1975, temazo de la vida. Estos Roxy Music no tenían a Brian Eno, pero sí al niño prodigio Eddie Jobson, y en esta canción, hay que destacarlo, al gran pionero del rock inglés John Gustafson, que es quién toca la formidable línea de bajo.

Gustafson venía de Liverpool, de tocar en los primeros sesenta con The Big Three y con los Merseybeats. También estuvo, por citar unos cuantos, en Unit 4+2, los progresivos Quatermass con Mick Underwood y en Hard Stuff, power trío con el gran John Du Cann y Paul Hammond, ambos ex Atomic Rooster. En "Love Is The Drug", Johnny lleva el peso, es una canción de graves. Por contraste, los coros agudos son la pera limonera, y la última nota es más o menos la primera de "A Hard Day´s Night". "Love Is The Drug" le influyó mucho a Nile Rodgers cuando creó Chic ("Good Times", etc...). Gran montaje de ZMHSRK con imágenes de la película "Le Samouraï" (1967), protagonizada por Alain Delon.
