Life on Earth by Snow Patrol from the album Wildness - Directed by Brett Simon
Can someone just hold me?
Don't fix me, don't try to change a thing
Can someone just know me?
'Cause underneath, I'm broken and it's beautiful
Lyrics from Broken & Beautiful by Kelly Clarkson
Songwriting: Songwriters: Alecia B. Moore / John Mcdaid / Steve Mac
Hiya Sea! So a ton of Ed Sheeran songs have Larry headcanons, and there was one song a post skimmed over called "English Rose." It was apparently on Ed's x album, but only on the Wembley deluxe edition? Not sure how that works but it's on YouTube and 1) It's been in my head nonstop I think it's one of my fave Ed songs and 2) I would love to hear (even just a tiny) interpretation you have of it? Do you think that it could've been inspired by Larry or at least interpreted that way? Xx
English Rose has a great, daring musical moment. You can hear it at 0:34, when the music drops away (for five beats!), and Ed allows for silence. This is rare enough in folk music, but in pop! It’s an eternity!

The song is talking about how Ed felt pressured to pursue musical success in Nashville, Tennessee for bigger audiences and recognition, but he missed England (both England and his girl are symbolized by the English Rose). The song was written for his album Multiply.
But I’d long to beIn the bed of my true loveBack where I came fromShe’s waiting for me
So I’ll make my way Through long winding country roadsBut my heart still beats For my home and my English rose
I think Harry has a similar, England-looking heart when he explained about his ship tattoo. His solo promo did start in England with Another Man (not with a larger outlet like GQ, for instance). Louis’ image is now firmly Northern English. I’m wondering whether these boys are trying to come home, after all that time?
Ed co-wrote English Rose with Johnny McDaid from Snow Patrol. Incidentally, McDaid was one of the first people to discuss Harry’s solo music, in May 2016. They wrote these songs together (registered on ASCAP): Endlessly, 5378 Miles, Already Home and Coco (McDaid is Courtney Cox’s ex). None of these songs showed up on HS1.
(Remember Harry was also rumored to be working with Max Martin and Bruno Mars? Wild times.)
McDaid’s bandmate, Gary Lightbody, actually wrote “Something Great” with Harry for Midnight Memories. SG is the only 1d song never sung on tour. The ONLY ONE. You know why.
Could Snow Patrol know about Louis and Harry, the way Ed does? I’d say more than likely. Thank you for the question!

Why weep ye by the tide, lady Why weep ye by the tide? I'll wed ye to my youngest son And ye shall be his bride And ye shall be his bride, lady Sae comely to be seen But aye she let the tears doon fa' For Jock o' Hazeldean. Now let this willfu' grief be done And dry that cheek sae pale Young Frank is chief of Errington And laird o' Langley-dale His step is first in peaceful ha' His sword in battle keen But aye she let the tears doon fa' For Jock o' Hazeldean. A chain of gold ye shall not lack Nor braid to bind your hair Nor mettled hound, nor managed hawk Nor palfrey fresh and fair. And you, the foremost o' them a' Shall ride our forrest queen But aye she let the tears doon fa' For Jock o' Hazeldean. The kirk was deck'd at morningtide The tapers glimmer'd fair The priest and bridegroom wait the bride And dame and knight were there They sought her baith by bower and ha' The lady was na' seen She's o'er the border and awa' Wi' Jock o' Hazeldean.
