We must risk delight. We can do without pleasure, but not delight. Not enjoyment. We must have the stubbornness to accept our gladness in the ruthless furnace of this world.

Women are like the stock market. You put your money in a high performing mutual fund and you leave it alone.
You donāt pull it out and invest in some sexy start up. 99% of those companies fail and you will get fucked. Leave your money where it is. Trust me.

Well, I've been afraid of changin'

Death Is Nothing at All
by Henry Scott Holland
Death is nothing at all.
I have only slipped away to the next room.
I am I and you are you.
Whatever we were to each other,
That, we still are.
Call me by my old familiar name.
Speak to me in the easy way
which you always used.
Put no difference into your tone.
Wear no forced air of solemnity or sorrow.
Laugh as we always laughed
at the little jokes we enjoyed together.
Play, smile, think of me. Pray for me.
Let my name be ever the household word
that it always was.
Let it be spoken without effect.
Without the trace of a shadow on it.
Life means all that it ever meant.
It is the same that it ever was.
There is absolute unbroken continuity.
Why should I be out of mind
because I am out of sight?
I am but waiting for you.
For an interval.
Somewhere. Very near.
Just around the corner.
All is well.
To be attached to the subdivision, to love the little platoon we belong to in society, is the first principle (the germ as it were) of public affections. It is the first link in the series by which we proceed towards a love to our country.

If you know someone whoās been through the hospice experience, acknowledge that. Just say you heard this guy Jason talk about how tough it must be to have those memories, and that youāre there if they ever want to talk about it. They may not want to talk, but itās just nice to connect with someone living each day with those lasting images. I know it sounds unbelievable, but Iāve never been asked that question.

Time really is a circle; I can see that now. We are trapped between a past we canāt return to and a future that is uncertain. And it takes guts to live here, in the hard space between anticipation and realization.

Patient and Daughter Appear Closely Bonded
By Amanda Quaid
My toddler takes a bite of tater tot and tells me
she wants me to die.
The social worker says I should respond and not
react to things like that
so I ask why she says she wants me to die
as though itās just
a thought-provoking notion that has never
crossed my mind.
She thinks for a moment, chewing, her tiny lips
stained with blueberry juice.
āI want you to die so you can show me
how to die.ā
I take that phrase and tuck it in my breastāsheās
given me a gift, I know,
a task or blessing or could it beāwould you not
call it permissionā
āAnd you could come back as a peacock!ā she cries
with a grin
āAnd so could I, and then we could be friends!ā
She cackles at me and I smile
back at her and see us in the next
go-round, two peacocks
preening our plumes in the Sri Lankan sun,
finally peers and bickering
over the last mangosteen
in the grove
