I had thoughts. Johnny has a family. They must have Pokémon too. Naming their Pokémon after dead people is kinda a common thing in the Raught family.

Pelipper Mail! It’s a lemon with an orange ribbon tied around it in a bow.

…The Pelipper returns. It drops off a small box, and a note.

The note is unsigned, written in purple ink with small curlicued handwriting:

“life hath bestowed upon thee lemons. or, lemon. and other assorted items. happy birthday, senior.”

There’s a smiley face at the bottom of the paper.

Inside the box, there’s a box of Halloween-themed cookies (the sender has attempted and failed to remove the clearance label—they got a very good price), an empty photo frame decorated with purple and orange rhinestones—it’s a little tacky, in a funny way. Finally, an acrylic keychain with a Rotom on it is included.

At the bottom, there’s another note, in the same handwriting: “sorry. i didn’t know what to get a dead guy.”
