Released in early 1995, Lost Eden is an adventure game by Cryo (makers of the incredible Dune; the quasi-adventure game, not the real time strategy title by Westwood), with input from famed Fighting Fantasy Gamebooks author and Lionhead co-founder Steve Jackson. Videogame adaptations of comic books have been a staple since the inception of games, and will continue so as long both mediums do. It benefits comic creators who can license content to third parties thereby keeping the comics funded; it's good for developers who can tap into pre-existing material and their subsequent markets; while players can enjoy a deeper experience within their favourite narratives, and can generally know what to expect. You just have to look at the high quality of various adaptations by Capcom and Konami on our licenses theme page to see why comics and games are a perfect match. Tom Mason's Dinosaurs for Hire (hereafter DFH) is one such crossover, though given its comparative obscurity it's perhaps a little surprising.

Gaiares
The shoot-em-up genre was well established in 1990, with an already rich background to draw from. Arcades were the technological vanguard and consoles were still judged by the quality of arcade ports; significantly, the Mega Drive was powerful and still trying to make a name for itself despite launching two years earlier. In this context, Gaiares is significant, not only for pushing the shoot-em-up genre, but as a home system exclusive and a Mega Drive/Genesis exclusive.
