describe an average day.

wake up. shower immediately. hit starbucks. in the process howard sterns on the radio... at the moment it's january in new york, so the chances of skating outside are 50/50... few phone calls, few movies, couple of meals... yadayada

what do you like to do besides skate? ice hockey. tennis.

what's your take on the amount of videos being put out in skating these days? i can't keep up, and the more i watch the less i feel like skating. i try not to get wraped up in what everybody else is doing... i know who i like to watch skate, and i'll watch their vids.

where are you living now? what's the best and worst part of being where you are? i'm living in long island, new york. this is where i feel like being... There's nothing "worst" about living here.

You get the flu/ cold thing that's going around the world at the moment? i'm good for about two flu's a year.

you think you're "doing a good job" at being a pro skater? ask my bosses over at chocolate and nike that question.

what pisses you off? as soon as somebody knows i skate professionally, guess the question... "do you know tony hawk?"... other than that, fibbers and ear chewers.

describe the perfect day. i'm stuck on that one. next.

Ever almost die? If so, how? driving in vermont... mad snow... almost lost control around a turn... 18 wheeler head on... thank you lord.

Any plans after skating work wise? no master plan... epsom salt might be hiring

travel much? new york to cali recently. miami, italy... so yeah, i travel pretty much.

Sisters or brothers? which do you hate/ love the most and why if you have any? one sister... love her because she's my sister.

What are you doing later today? it's my buds birthday. so i'll be at some bar in manhattan later on tonight.

At some point, I REALLY need to talk about the Battle of the Gunboats

The whole First Barbary War, this is one of those “band of brothers” moments. John Trippe is a lesser known PB who is important to me.

Meanwhile the spar deck of the Constitution.

John Trippe a shrew and eagle John Henley fighting back to back on Gunboat No. 6 during the Battle of the Gunboats during the First Barbary War.

R.I.P Lieutenant John Trippe. I heard you were an insanely skilled swordsman who took on an athletic Turkish captain of a gunboat who stood well over six feet tall.

During one of Commodore Preble’s attacks on Tripoli, Lieutenant Trippe had the luck of with a crew of eleven men face off against a crew of thirty six Turks which happened to be the biggest enemy boat. Trippe was small but boy was he nimble to be locked in such desperate hand to hand combat against the leader. After the ninth slash to the head, Trippe was brought down to his knees and when his adversary stood over him, the American gave him a quick jab into the vitals and watched the man collapse on deck. When the Tripolitans witnessed Trippe’s victory, they withdrew their remaining gunboats.

Unfortunately he died of yellow fever in 1810 but I’m sure he would have had an impressive naval career had he lived longer.

Another thing, John Henley was Martha Custis Washington’s nephew who fought along side John Trippe during all this.
