Meet a Lakota native that loves religion and philosophy, C.Hopkins. We were discussing about one of the hardest passage in the New Testament, John 1:1 "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God."
We are both native but I'm Diné (Navajo) and he is Lakota, however he was able to truely make it meaning to our culture and language. So he told me to replace "The Word" with Hozhó, so it reads,
"In the beginning was Hozhó, and Hozhó was with God, and Hozhó was God."
Growing up Diné, Hozhó is a very important word in the Diné culture and language. It has many meanings like: health, beauty, happiness, wisdom, knowledge, peace and harmony.
I thought about why there are words today, you're reading these words to learn and understand an experience, an object or probably most important, a person. The word Hozhó, which has those many key words with many meanings. So it can explain a person. Christ himself in the eyes of a Diné.
Also, in Lakota, the word that's important to the tribe is Wakan. Which means: Sacred, Medicine, Lightning, Power, Mystery, Crazy, Thunder, Eagle, and Light. And you can replace the Word so it reads:
"In the beginning was Wakan, and Wakan was with God and Wakan was God."
