John 14 - Greater things.
I am with Jesus in those last few days with his disciples. Jesus starts with "Truly, truly...” And he has my attention. The statement that he is making is so surprising that Jesus wants to make sure that we understand that He is speaking TRUTH. I see it in red letters in my Bible, but honestly I cannot fathom it. I see it, and in my heart I can hear Jesus emphatic voice saying;
"Truly, truly, I say to you, WHOEVER believes in me will also do the works that I do; and GREATER WORKS than these will he do, because I am going to the Father. WHATEVER you ask in my name, this I will do.."
And I wonder. What have I been asking for? Really. Does it fall into the category of "greater things"?
So I am asking with this in mind today.
I want to see the nations worship Jesus. I want to be a disciple maker that motivates the church to be multiplied throughout the earth. I want to see my children sent to go to the nations and give their lives for the gospel. I want to see my church plant 1000 churches all over the world in the next 40 years. I want to give the gospel to people who have never ever heard it before. I want hell to know my name. I want to see the Bible translated into every language of the earth before I die. I want to preach the word in such a way that it incites people to do insane things for the glory of God. I want to see the captive, abused and destitute children across the world set free and become preachers of the glorious gospel. I want to love Jesus and his work so much that I am willing to go anywhere, live any way, and give everything away for the cause of His glory. I want to love my husband in such a way that the love of Jesus for his Church is on display. I want the glory of God and the Great Commission to be my reason for breathing. I want to live like Jesus died yesterday, rose this morning, and is coming back tomorrow. And when Jesus comes back for me, I want him to find me doing greater things. That's what I want.
