John Horne Burns wrote three books from 1945-1952 (ish), drank, drank and drank some more until all his promise had faded in the Tuscan summer (was it suicide? Accident? Murder? Or the cerbal hemorrage like the authorities said? Your guess is as good as anybody’s) and, worst, still he was forgotten. And yet that one of those books, The Gallery, was as perfect and sublime as American literature can be. (I already reviewed The Gallery here, scroll down). : Now, with this account, John Horne Burns life (or Jack as I’ve started to think of him cordially in my mind) can step back into the light where he belongs. Blessings to @nyrbooks for reissuing The Gallery for writers like me to find and David Margolick for writing this biography! : I read this book pump me up for grad school, weirdly.📖 (Don’t write & drink is the moral to this and many other stories). : #johnhorneburns #thegallery #twentiethcenturywriters #🥀 #darkacademia #richardpapen #classiclit #classicliterature #literary #literarycommunity #bookstagram #lightacademia #readersofinstagram #writersofinstagram #teachergoth #blackwritersofinstagram #weirdblackgirl #protectweirdblackgirlsatallcosts #deadauthors #romanticacademia #biblophile #midwesterngothic #gothicacademia #asecondofwhimsy #romanticism #booksbooksbooks #newbookstagrammer #deadpoetssociety #forgottenwriters https://www.instagram.com/p/CNjHmcyh1Im/?igshid=da5oustc9so5
