“I’m really lucky to have you.”
Ravus could only stare on ahead at the other man with an incredulous expression. His spoon was snapped between his teeth, hanging there absently while ice cream melted in his mouth. He could be enjoying the taste of such a succulent dessert, but no. He was distracted instead by such a remark. This certainly was not how he wanted to spend his post-training session. Ravus would much rather be cheating on his physique now that he has such a freedom rather than trying to process why such a sentence was spurred.
Usually such a statement was reserved as a compliment, but such remarks were unwarranted, undesired, suspicious even. And with how those ridiculous amber eyes peered at him over the top of the brute’s peanut butter and chocolate milkshake, Ravus couldn’t help but feel as if there was something sinister lurking underneath that dazed expression that the other man sported.
Ravus’s face twisted as he tugged the spoon from his mouth. “Why?”
“Why not? Can’t a guy be sentimental?”
Gladiolus scoffed, hanging his head briefly in defeat before he looked back up at the silver-haired man. “Just let me have this moment, Ravus.” Ravus merely rolled his eyes in response before he jammed his spoon into the ice cream and stared at Gladiolus. “Just been thinkin’, and I just wanted to let you know that you’re a good man. Probably a friend too.”
“Friend is a strong word.”
“Ravus.” The commander held up his hand, gesturing back to Gladiolus to take over the conversation once again. It was proving to be hard for the both, it seems. “I’m just saying, it’s been awhile since I’ve had a sparring buddy, or someone to talk – you know, as much conversation as you can possibly handle. All me and the others every talk about is just about royal business.”
“So, you favor our banter and snide remarks towards one another instead of civil conversation?” Ravus questioned with an arched eyebrow. Gladiolus nodded again, provoking an eye rolling from Ravus. “And to think you were already peculiar as it was.” Despite his words, however, Ravus glanced back up at Gladiolus, musing quietly before he took another spoonful of ice cream towards his lips. He only stopped short as he murmured under his breath. “I suppose your company is not as unfavorable anymore either…”
It was Gladiolus’s turn to look at Ravus with a surprised stare. “Sorry, what was that?”
Ravus sighed, redirected his spoon and jamming it into that dropped jaw of Gladiolus’s. “Never you mind, Amicitia. I refuse to repeat myself.”
Gladiolus’s gaze narrowed suspiciously, but he knew what Ravus said. Ravus’s face said it in place of his words. The bodyguard chuckled to himself, taking the spoon from his own mouth before he took another bite of Ravus’s ice cream. “Whatever you say, Rae.”
“That’s Ravus to you, you brute.”
