So I just saw Incredibles 2 and it was good. Not getting in to too many spoilers, but I can safely say that while I was surprised, I couldn’t help but a find it a titch predictable, not in a rehash the original type of way, but more of a “could’ve been a bit more subtler with its narrative”. The Screenslaver made for an interesting villain, but their reveal honestly felt like something out of Scooby-Doo flic. Honestly, they could never beat Syndrome as best Incredibles villain, though, I’ll say that much. If there is one thing to truly complain about, it’s a particular scene with Mr. Incredible and Elastigirl together that just felt really off putting. Their chemistry is top notch, in this film and before, but the scene felt off in its intent. Maybe the wording didn’t sit well with me, I don’t know. When I think about it, unlike Finding Dory, I’m glad Bird didn’t just retell the original but with Elastigirl going through the loop instead of Bob, the kids (especially Violet) and Frozone actually got more to do, especially with the fight scenes they get. Even Jack Jack, while it didn’t add much beyond what I was already aware of and Edna Mode stealing the spotlight yet again, made for an entertaining babu that never annoyed me. I can certainly say 2 expanded the original to a natural degree, transitioning from Mr. Incredible’s struggle and more to how the family seeks to thrive in this society as a whole. There were elements that could’ve been a lot tighter, especially in the plot, but I honestly had a good time watching this. I say it was worth the wait, regardless of how Pixar’s been doing lately, but I’ll admittedly say tune the hype to a reasonable degree when you go and see it. And I’m giving this one a 3.5 out of 5.
