Here at #tiff19 , JOKER was one of the most buzzed about films. The trailers only heightened the anticipation and expectation. Even with high expectations I left this movie surprised. Surprised at how stunning each shot was. Literally you could take any frame out of this film and put it up as an art piece. I want an album comprised of just shots from this film - it’s that beautiful. Even with high expectations, I was surprised at the depth of Joaquin Phoenix’s acting and how transformative it was. Finally, even with high expectations I was surprised at how troubled I felt with the ironic operatic heroism Todd Phillips portrays Joker. Menacing and troubling.
