The sky was getting dark, and it seemed that everyone was going home for the night to have a good ole bubble bath, eat some chocolate and then go to bed. If one listened carefully, even the birds were heading home to their nests, leaving the street woefully empty.
That is… except for Taeyeon.
Yes, pray tell: why in the world was Taeyeon at the closest Starbucks to her work (and not even her usual café patron tsk, tsk Kim Taeyeon you disloyal woman), still dressed in her lab gear, dead-eyed and ringed with heavy eyebags, ordering yet another cup of coffee for the night?
Oh that’s right, because of overtime, an invention created by the devil himself to punish good, law-abiding citizens like Taeyeon.
And so, as Taeyeon mentally cried tears of pain, stumbling like a zombie up to the counter where the barista waited, Taeyeon dejectedly ordered a cup of black coffee with an unhealthy amount of sugar, the bitter concoction the bane of her existence, yet something she probably needed for the impending all-nighter. Sighing, Taeyeon looked longingly at the display picture of a delicious, heavenly looking cup of mocha with astounding amounts of whipped cream, before shaking her head.
As Taeyeon waited for her coffee to be brewed, the smell of the beans soothing to the soul, (though the black coffee was a nightmare to drink, the smell was something Taeyeon deeply appreciated.) She laid her head dejectedly upon the café table, already beyond stressed and weary before the night even started. Taeyeon sadly traced the SPD insignia on her lab coat distractedly as she mentally prepared to-do lists in her head for the night, cringing as the list almost piled upon the ground from its length. (Well ok, so perhaps Taeyeon was exaggerating, but the amount of things she had to do were no joke!)
At the sound of her name being called out, however, Taeyeon shot to the counter at astounding speeds, as her hands reached greedily for her savior: the coffee cup.
However, that was the moment where everything went wrong.
In her eagerness, the coffee had spilled, the precious, dark liquid spilling everywhere like a train-wreck, shattering Kim Taeyeon’s hopes and dreams into tiny, tiny pieces. Slowly, she sank to her knees, dramatically clutching onto her chest, wide eyes fixated with terror upon the spilled life-granting liquid.
“No…” She whispered, her pose in front of the upturned coffee cup like grief personified. As she kneeled in front of the crime scene like she would in front of a dead family member, her eyes were budding with tears that were begging to be shed.
