Too Much TV: London Games
The Too Much TV podcast goes international this week as Associated Press sports reporter Jon Krawczysnki joins us from London, where he has been covering the Summer Olympics.
Not a bad gig, huh?
We talk gymnastics, hoops and fish and chips. Tasty.
Here's the link.
Also, stop back to ArgusLeader.com at 3 p.m. Thursday for a live web show from South Dakota State football media day. I'll be joined by Jacks coach John Stiegelmeier and a couple of players. We'll be talking about the upcoming season and taking your questions.
Terry Vandrovec also posts regular updates on his Twitter page.
Believe the Hype! By JON KRAWCZYNSKI AP Sports Writer
Jon Krawczynski (@APkrawczynski)
Are you sure you heard that explosive comment you think you heard? If you're not, don't tweet it. Associated Press sports writer Jon Krawczynski did, and his employer paid the price -- literally, in the form of a legal settlement -- for the accusation Krawczynski made against a National Basketball Association referee.
William Spooner sued Krawczynski and AP in March based on a tweet that accused Spooner of negotiating foul calls with a coach during a game. The NBA investigated and concluded that Spooner did no such thing.
"Mr. Krawczynski acknowledges the possibility that he misunderstood what Mr. Spooner said," according to an AP statement. The media company agreed to pay $20,000 for Spooner's legal fees, and Krawczynski deleted the tweet. However, screen shots of the offending tweet remain online.
"TWolves got blasted for the airport welcome. But it's clear Rubio loved it. Made him feel welcome. So mission accomplished."
Associated Press writer Jon Krawczynski via Twitter on the Wolves newest point guard Ricky Rubio and how Rubio feels about playing for Minnesota.
Rubio to Minnesota Official!
A recent report has broke that has stated that Ricky Rubio will join the Minnesota Timberwolves for the '11-'12 season (whenever it may begin).
Dan Barreiro of KFAN was the first to tweet that the Minnesota Timberwolves have come to a deal with Ricky Rubio to join them next year. The contract was apparently finalized yesterday. Jerry Zgoda and Jon Krawczynski have also confirmed this report via Twitter!!
More to follow and I'm sure the Timberwolves will be holding a press conference sometime in the near future.
Thanks for reading and stay tuned for a full-story. GO WOLVES!!
NBA ref sues Twittering Timberwolves reporter
An NBA referee has whistled foul on an Associated Press Timberwolves reporter who tweeted that the ref promised points to head coach Kurt Rambis after a bad call. Bill Spooner said he has “honestly” refereed NBA games for 22 years, but was investigated by the league after AP writer Jon Krawczynski posted a message on social networking site Twitter.com during the Jan. 24 Timberwolves game against the Houston Rockets at the Target Center.
According to his suit, the Oak Park, Cali. referee called a Minnesota player for a foul at 10:22 in the second period and got an earful from Rambis.
After promising to review the call at the half, Spooner said Rambis asked him how he would get the points back.
Spooner said he didn’t respond to the comment, but Krawczynski soon after tweeted: “Ref Bill Spooner told Rambis he’d “get it back” after a bad call. Then he made an even worse call on Rockets. That’s NBA officiating folks
What a joke. At least the AP is standing behind Jon; from what I've read they're basically refusing to retract this comment.
