I LOVE IRONY!
It's been a good week for the pro-equality side in Minnesota, at least when it comes to fundraising. On Monday, the HRC pledged $1 million dollars to fight ballot initiatives this fall, to be divided evenly between Maine, Washington, Maryland and Minnesota. $250,000 to help spread the word and defeat the mean-spirited amendment is a nice boost!
Then, on Tuesday of this week, Jon Stryker of Kalamazoo, Michigan, donated $325,000 to Freedom to Marry (a coalition partner with Minnesotans United for All Families) to help defeat the amendment. According to the Star Tribune, Stryker is heir to a medical products company fortune.
With under 90 days to go, we can win this thing - but it's going to take a lot of voices and dollars to make it happen. Thank you to both the HRC and to Mr. Stryker for adding 575,000 to the dollars side of the fight!
