New Roomie | Dhani & Jonah
@jonah-wright
Jonah stands in the middle of his cell, arms held rigidly at his sides, his best shirt that he’d decided to wear for his first day already wrinkling at the front. He can feel small drops of sweat beadings at the back of his neck, his heart pounding against his ribs as he looks around to his new accommodations. The grant he’d received, the one he’d bragged about to family and friends thinking it had something to do with him being special certainly wasn’t what he expected. Jonah swallows, thoughts about finding his brother pushed to the back of his mind as his eyes flicker over to the bunk beds that were now in his ‘dorm’.
He should have applied to Yale again, or Columbia, or goddamn community college for that matter. His tongue swipes down over his bottom lip before teeth sink into it, finally pushing himself to move, making a motion for his bag that sat on the ground. He needed to remind himself that he’d come here on his own, and he couldn’t just go running back to mom and dad. They’d be so disappointed. His stomach twists at the thought of the look on their faces if he returned back home, or the things his brother and sister would say. No. He needed to make this work. He had a brother to find and a degree to get doing something that he actually liked, even if his parents did think he was doing pre med. Sucking in a breath through his nose, Jonah pulls out a few things from his bag, moving to put the shirts away in one of the empty drawers. Because it couldn’t be all that bad, right? A noise from the doorway of his cell make his eyes flicker up, hesitant to greet whoever was there.
“Hi,” Dhani said, a little surprised but mostly friendly. He didn’t expect Gina in at the moment and just as well. He was still moving slow from yesterday’s punishment. Lucas had rented him, leaving Gina, and now Jonah, without him for the rest of the week, and the fae was giving him painkillers and aiding him how he could. The punishment wanted Dhani to heal without the help of magic, so Dhani was walking rather slowly and not daring to leave the house without a chug of whatever magical draught Lucas and his fae magic came up with.
“I’m Dhani,” Dhani stepped inside and held out his hand. He’d forgotten the book he’d been reading this week and a few other things like toiletries and his school bag and books. The guards had dragged him from the whipping post right to Lucas’ place. Sitting down for classes would be uncomfortable enough, he didn’t want to show up without his work or books. He rather wished Lucas allowed him more than the jock strap and mesh shirt at the moment when outside as his injuries, while bandaged, were still rather exposed.
The cell was small enough that Dhani would need to wait for Jonah to move before he could get his things. But suddenly getting a new kid here, Dhani wanted to wait until Jonah was either gone or had his back turned to get what he’d come for. It wasn’t fair, just getting in and finding out your new roomie has bandages on his back and bare ass over a school inflicted punishment. Dhani would much rather look like the weirdo kid wearing a jock strap and mesh shirt for fuck knows why. But it wouldn’t be fair to keep the new guy in the dark either. And the dude was already sweating. Dhani didn’t think it was from the heat. New guy had dressed up, too.
“Nice shirt.”
